Miscellaneous series

Deposits & Gifts [series DEP]

This very large series, covering an extremely wide range of subjects, comprises material either given to, placed on loan with, or purchased by Barings. It includes official records of the bank which at some stage were taken away but subsequently returned. Others are private papers of partners and staff as well as of members of the Baring family. Other papers simply touch on Barings' history.

Deposits and Gifts includes a large group of papers called 'Barings Records'. These were gifts or purchases accumulated over the years and stored in three deed boxes under the supervision of Partners' Filing. They were passed into the custody of the Archivist in the early-1970s.

The broad subject range is illustrated by the following examples of some of the more important groups of papers. The list is far from exhaustive.
