The Baring Archive is about to embark on a major digitisation project to make its archives on Latin America more accessible.
We hope that through this project we will begin to open up the collection to a wider audience to enable researchers to use the archives from anywhere in the world.

A painting of four key figures in the history of Barings is currently featuring in an exhibition in the Netherlands.
Ambrose McEvoy's painting, Messrs Baring Brothers & Co, was painted in 1926 and depicts John Baring, Cecil Baring, Alfred Mildmay and Gaspard Farrer.

Throughout the summer fifty BookBench sculptures have been decorating the streets of London. Barings features on the bench depicting Around the World in Eighty Days by Jules Verne, which was published in 1873.

The Baring Archive has just published Barings and the First World War, an online exhibition to mark the centenary of the beginning of the conflict.

"Barings in America: An Interactive Investment Experience" has recently closed at the Museum of American Finance (MOAF) in New York. The exhibition, which opened in December 2012, was extended from its planned closure date in April 2013. It was seen by more than 25,000 people.

The Baring Archive has made the news in a Bloomberg article on the Falklands Referendum.
In 1824, Barings lead managed a £1 million bond for the State of Buenos Aires however, in 1828, the Argentine Government defaulted.
Remarkably, after some twenty years of negotiations, the Argentine Government offered to settle the debt by dropping their claim to the Falkland islands.

Extracts of a series of oral history interviews are now available in an online exhibition on The Baring Archive's website.
The extracts give an insight into what it was like to work at Barings from 1940 through to the 1990s. Topics covered include the Second World War, recruitment, computerisation, globalisation and the 1995 crisis.

Until mid-March, visitors to Hampshire Record Office will be able to find out more about Barings. An exhibition to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the founding of Barings is now on display in the lobby of the records centre.
Barings was founded in 1762 by John, Francis and Charles Baring.

On the evening of Monday 7th January 2013 The Baring Archive held a symposium and reception to mark 250 years since the establishment of John and Francis Baring & Co on Christmas Day 1762.
