Organisation of the Archive

A professional archivist was first appointed to administer the archives in 1960. Tom Ingram was responsible for cataloguing the Nineteenth Century Correspondence Archive which he completed in the early-1970s. His detailed catalogue remains the primary finding aid. Subsequently many twentieth century archives were catalogued using traditional methods. In the 1990s this latter material, together with additional archives, was catalogued using a purpose-designed computer-based cataloguing application. Some material still awaits cataloguing.
